ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING ON MONUMENTAL STATUES USING ACOUSTIC EMISSION -
FONTANA DI TREVI

SUMMARY

  • Day & night monitoring by acoustic emission on two statues (right horse and Triton) of the monumental complex of Fontana di Trevi, carried out in different weather conditions (January 1990: winter; July 1990: summer).
  • RESULTS

  • Although the temperature gradients on the observed regions exceeded 50°C, the acoustic emission did not reveal particular situations of criticality for the statues neither in cold nor in hot weather conditions.
  • AE activity was mainly due to the athmospheric degradation and to the natural stress redistribution through the marble.
