ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING ON MONUMENTAL STATUES USING ACOUSTIC EMISSION - FONTANA DI TREVI
SUMMARY
Day & night monitoring by acoustic emission on two statues (right horse and Triton) of the monumental complex of Fontana di Trevi, carried out in different weather conditions (January 1990: winter; July 1990: summer).
RESULTS
Although the temperature gradients on the observed regions exceeded 50°C, the acoustic emission did not reveal particular situations of criticality for the statues neither in cold nor in hot weather conditions.
AE activity was mainly due to the athmospheric degradation and to the natural stress redistribution through the marble.
